2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn vs Chevy Silverado LT Naples FL
Pickup Truck Faceoff: Ram Big Horn vs Silverado LT
When you are out on the job, you need a pickup truck that can haul heavy loads and perform reliably when put to the test. Looking at the scope of performance ratings of the top trucks currently, the 2020 Ram 1500 and 2020 Chevrolet Silverado stand out due to their overall performance ratings with towing and work prowess. In order to compare these two trucks to figure out which is best, we took a deep look at the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab model and the 2020 Chevy Silverado LT Quad Cab, thanks to their same cabin style as well as having the same trim level.
2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Handling
The 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab comes with a selection of different engines that each give a strong progression of performance and purpose. The base 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is an award-winning engine and a strong start with this model, offering a power output of 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. If you are looking to maximize the power output, Ram also offers a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine that comes with optional eTorque technology to create a mild-hybrid system while being capable of towing up to 12,750 lbs! Thanks to popular demand, we also see Ram bring in a revamped edition of their 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine that is better than ever, with a torque output of 480 lb-ft and a class-leading tow capacity of 12,560 lbs. Each engine featured within the 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab is paired with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission and a choice between 4×2 and 4×4 drive systems.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado LT Handling
Chevy doesn’t sit idly by while looking at the competition, being sure to bring the best they have to offer under the hood of their 2020 Chevy Silverado LT Double Cab pickup truck! Coming in standard with this truck is a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine, that even with its lighter stature can produce a similar power output to the Pentastar V6 with see with the Ram 1500, but slightly less in terms of overall capability. Chevy is sure to outfit the Silverado with an option to bring in a turbocharged diesel V6 similar to what we see with the Ram 1500; however, the tow capacity is significantly lower as well as the overall torque output.
2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab Design
The 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab is packed with features, working off of the core set of features brought in lower-trim models and building on more. This model of the 1500 comes with a 6’4” bed that allows for a nice volume of cargo, especially with the build-in storage bins along the side. Within the interior of the Quad Cab, there is a nice amount of legroom for both the front and rear passengers and the materials used within the truck are comfortable, especially the premium cloth upholstery. We see a large number of features worked into the Big Horn trim level, with fully adjustable front seats that provide lumbar support, additional in-floor storage compartments, keyless entry/ignition, and much more. The Uconnect infotainment system makes its way back in as well, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports all housed on an 8.4-inch touchscreen display or a segment-exclusive 12-inch touchscreen.
2020 Chevy Silverado LT Double Cab Design
The LT Double Cab trim model of the 2020 Chevy Silverado strikes a nice balance of practicality and convenience with its design. The interior of the Double Cab has a decent volume to it, but we found the legroom as a rear passenger to be a bit cramped, especially compared to the extra leg and hip room offered with the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab model. The Silverado does work in some next features with the LT trim model, including a rear locking tailgate, LED lights, decent interior upholstery, keyless entry and Chevy’s infotainment system on an 8-inch touchscreen display. Compared to the 1500, the infotainment system is okay but doesn’t match up against the 8.4-inch or optional 12-inch screen we see with the 1500. The LT Double Cab trim model of the Silverado also doesn’t come with a push-button start and a few other features we see standard with the 1500 Big Horn, requiring you to pay more in order to unlock the same depth of features.
Looking down the line, the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab and 2020 Chevy Silverado LT Double Cab are the two most similar models to compare. The interior of the Silverado is comfortable if you are up front, but the 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab offers more rear passenger room and some additional features. The powertrain system selection also falls in favor of the 1500 Big Horn, with a solid decision between three great engine options, especially with the EcoDiesel V6 that pushes what is possible with a diesel engine. The 2019 “MOTOR TREND TRUCK OF THE YEAR” Ram 1500 continues to shine for the 2020 model year. Check it out today.
