Check this out: Two Dodge vehicles, the Challenger and Durango, have been nominated for Shoppers' Choice Awards at Cars.com.

According to the folks at Cars.com, here's how the popular web-based  auto shopper's guide determines the awards:

"Millions upon millions of shoppers visit Cars.com every year, searching for cars, making contacts with and sending leads to dealers, and reviewing their own cars as well. From all of that activity (and a little online voting), we determine which car best represents the voice of our shoppers."

In other words, the Shoppers' Choice Award is a genuine honor, because it is in large part determined by the shoppers themselves.  Here consumers raised their hands to nominate the exciting Dodge Challenger and the segment-leading Dodge Durango SUV.

You'd have to be a little crazy or maybe just an automotive journalist to take a brand-spanking new 4x4 over the Rubicon Trail. That's because you can walk the boulder-strewn path near Lake Tahoe faster than you can drive it, and few vehicles have traversed the 22-mile trail without gathering an ensemble of sheetmetal scrapes and gouges?Rubicon badges of courage as it were. But still, off-roaders come from far and wide to test their boulder-creeping mettle against the unforgiving Rube, usually with rigs modified to handle its punishment.

A decade ago, Jeep introduced the first Rubicon version of its iconic Wrangler. The idea then, as now, was to offer a Jeep that came from the factory with upgraded gear to help even the odds against challenging trails like the Rubicon. With the 2013 Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition, Jeep continues that tradition. There have been a plethora of Wrangler special editions over the years, but this one is fitted with heavy-duty gear hardcore trailhounds would otherwise have to add as aftermarket equipment. Pull up to the yoga session in one of these babies and no one will be thinking "soccer mom."

Okay, so maybe a minivan engine?in this case, Chrysler's new 285-hp Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6?lives under that standard Power Dome hood. But what it's hooked to nets you serious rock-crawling cred: 4.10:1 Dana 44 axles working through a Rock-Track part-time transfer case with a 4:1 low-range ratio and Tru-Lok locking differentials that net a first-gear ratio reduction of 73:1. The thing might be geared slower than the Canaveral's space-shuttle trolley.

An added half-inch of ride height helps the Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition clear obstacles it might otherwise roll over on its BF Goodrich KM2 265/70-17 on/off-road tires and satin-black painted and polished aluminum wheels. The winch-ready steel bumpers have end caps that can be removed to lessen the chance of snagging obstacles in the wild. Mopar rock rails guard the Jeep's flanks, while meshing stands vigil over the fuel filler door and taillamps.

The Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition is available in both two- and extended-wheelbase four-door configurations, with your choice of a standard Sunrider softtop or optional hardtop. And, yes, you can still take the doors off.

Of course, you don't have to do that to notice the touches inside the new Jeep. Red leather seats with "Rubicon 10th Anniversary" embroidered accents beckon, as do a similarly decorated gauge cluster and door grab handles. There is even a plaque in the dash tray detailing the Jeep's technical details.

Yes, the Dodge Charger Daytona is back, making its debut this week at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. But unlike the original, only hardcore Dodge fans will recognize this new kit.

Instead of an outlandish rear wing and imposing snout, the 2013 Dodge Charger Daytona gets black hood stripes, a matching black vinyl roof wrap, a small rear wing and 20-inch aluminum wheels with more black highlights. The special package also features a unique color palette of Daytona Blue, Bright White, Billet Silver or Pitch Black, and "Daytona" graphics on the rear quarter panels.

If that's not enough, the package also sports a Daytona Blue engine cover, performance 3.06 rear axle ratio, paddle shifters with manual mode for the five-speed automatic transmission, and sports-tuned steering and suspension. No changes are made to the engine, which means a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 rated at 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque is nestled under the hood.

Inside, there's a custom interior with Daytona Blue stitching and piping, dark brushed aluminum trim, a Mopar pedal kit and a Beats Audio 10-speaker sound system.

Available on the 2013 Dodge Charger R/T and Charger R/T Road & Track, the new Daytona package is priced from $32,990 for the Charger R/T, representing a $2,995 premium, and $36,495 for the Charger R/T Road &Track, which represents a $2,500 premium.

Sales commence in the first quarter of next year, and, given the success of the previous Charger Daytona launched for 2007, we suspect this one will sell out fast.

Once upon a time, the Charger Daytona was Dodge's way of homologating a wild aerodynamic package for use in stock car racing. These days, the name is little more than a means for Dodge to spice up its large sedan. Case in point: the new 2013 Charger Daytona, which officially debuts later this month at the 2012 Los Angeles auto show.

Like the 2006-2009 Charger Daytona model, the new 2013 car is based upon the Charger R/T, which makes use of Chrysler's 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. Changes applied to Daytona models are, once again, largely visual and center primarily on the Charger's exterior. 2013 Charger Daytona models gain a satin black vinyl hood applique, fender graphics, and roof wrap, along with a rear decklid spoiler and rosshair grille insert painted in a matching color. Speaking of paint, 2013 Charger Daytonas are available in only four hues (white, silver, black, and the fetching "Daytona Blue" shown here).

Chrysler hopes the lightning that has struck the 200 and 300 S models can spark sales to new minivan customers for the model that enjoys the segment's highest loyalty in the business (according to RL Polk). Like its sedan siblings, the new 2013 Chrysler Town & Country S debuting at the 2012 Los Angeles auto show gets a black-chrome grille, S badging, darkened headlight surrounds, 17-inch polished-face black-painted pocket wheels, and an all-black interior with embroidering on the leather bolster/ballistic center seats. Exterior color choices include red, white, silver, or black.

Unlike the sedans, the 2013 Town & Country S gets a new Blu-Ray DVD rear-seat entertainment system as standard, with HDMI and USB ports (a claimed industry first). The $32,990 base price will position the S between the Touring L and Limited models when sales begin in May/June 2013.

2013 Chrysler Town Country S interior 300x187 imageAs you'd expect for a Chrysler S-badged car, the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country S has a retuned suspension, though the automaker is quick to note that the ride remains as comfortable as you'd expect for a minivan. Under the hood is a 3.6-liter V-6 producing 283 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

When we tested a newly refreshed 2011 Town & Country, we found the minivan quieter than before, and sporting dynamic improvements as well. "Both around our figure-eight course and in everyday driving, the new Chrysler has a nimble turn-in that's superior to some of Chrysler's new sedans," we wrote.

Joining similar packages available on the 200 and 300 sedans, this new Town and Country S trim replaces most of the standard car's shiny bits with dark accents, giving the minivan a more unique appearance.

The S trim level brings with it things like a black chrome grille, black-accented wheels and blacked-out headlight inserts, and it will only be offered in limited exterior colors (black, red, white and silver). The interior has likewise been given a blacked-out treatment including a black headliner and combination leather and cloth seats. All Town and Country S models come standard with Chrysler's new Blu-Ray rear-seat entertainment system, and it also has an HDMI input and a pair of USB ports that can charge mobile devices. The S' performance modifications start and end with a firmer sport suspension setup.

How much you pack into your Town & Country
of course depends on how far you have to travel. But whether you're loading up on turkey and pumpkin pie or preparing for a football game instead, Town & Country has enough space for any excursion. That's thanks to the industry-exclusive Stow 'n Go® Seating and added cargo room, perfect for delivering your whole family to the next holiday celebration.

Keep in mind, too, that the Chrysler Town & Country's Pentastar V-6 delivers 260 pound-feet of torque and 283 horsepower, not to mention an EPA-estimated mpg of 17 city and 25 highway, a combination of power and efficiency you'll be glad to have on any road trip.

Skipping the family Thanksgiving to head to the football game? Chrysler Town & Country has you covered for the tailgate, with enough leather-trimmed seating (standard) to fit seven football fans and also plenty of room to pack your Thanksgiving tailgate feast. A standard DVD player and available Uconnect Web will keep you plugged in and entertained while preparing your parking lot grilling extravaganza. Comfort and style, now that's something to be thankful for.

In the span of two weeks, the Jeep® Wrangler racked up four count 'em, four awards. The most recent? Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine bestowed upon the 2013 Jeep® Wrangler Moab its coveted "4×4 of the Year" Award, the second consecutive year that the Jeep Wrangler has won.

When the leading off-road-enthusiast publication says something about you, you listen. It doesn't dole out honors and awards to just any vehicle. Its editors drive vehicles hundreds of miles, evaluate suspensions, drivetrains, transfer case functionality, and off-road performance ? on sand, mud, dirt, and rock.

When equipped with a manual transmission and a 3.73 rear axle ratio, the Wrangler Moab has a crawl ratio of 45:1.

For 2013 the list of comprehensive updates makes it essentially an all-new truck. The new Ram 1500  features a host of structural improvements and fuel-saving technologies but still remains very much a workhorse. When equipped with the V-6 the 4x4 Tradesman model's max towing capability is 6300 pounds, and it bumps up to 9000 pounds with the V-8. The latter is a 100-pound improvement on the 2012's max towing. All brawn and no brains isn't an option for a modern pickup, though, so the Ram also comes with a smart-looking cabin and the complete raft of Chrysler infotainment and safety system options, including an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Chrysler's next-generation UConnect system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a rearview camera, and rear parking sensors. The result is a more capable, powerful, fuel-efficient, and all-around user-friendly truck.

2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year Contender- Dodge Dart

There are legions of folks who just want to get from here to there, and the Dart has one of the cooler interiors in which to do so. Dodge offers an impressive array of five interior trim styles and three different cluster designs to go with its 11 exterior colors, plus you can get a fancy 8.4-inch touch-screen boasting astute ergonomics for just over $20K.

2013 Dodge Dart interior3 300x187 imageEngine output figures are competitive. The 1.4-liter MultiAir twin-clutch utilizes savvy gear spacing to keep the engine from falling off its power curve as happens in the manual. Low-speed maneuvering in the twin-clutch evinces none of the shuddering we complained about in early Ford Focus DCTs.

Don't let the class and comfort of the interior fool you ? beneath the hood of Chrysler Town & Country   beats the powerful heart of a true workhorse.

We call that heart the Pentastar V-6, and by coupling it with the AutoStick six-speed transmission, we're able to deliver 260 pound-feet torque and a best-in-class 283 horsepower, all while maintaining a very reasonable EPA-estimated mpg of 17 city and 25 highway. What this means, generally speaking, is that the Chrysler Town & Country is versatility exemplified, a vehicle well-appointed for everyday tasks (such as trips to the grocery store) but also one that won't let you down when demands are more significant (think towing a cargo trailer on moving day).

And when we say significant, we mean significant. This vehicle has a towing capacity of 3,600 lbs. Pair that with a 6,050 lb. gross vehicle weight rating,* and it suddenly becomes clear that "mini" is maybe not the most accurate way to describe the Chrysler Town & Country.

Comprised largely of signature exterior visual cues and a few select performance mods in the case of the Charger and the Challenger the Blacktop package allows buyers to get a slightly more aggressive appearance with a single check on the order sheet. Pricing, colors, and kit vary from model to model, so pay close attention.

Based on the SXT trim level, the Blacktop Edition Avengers come in Black, Redline Red 2, Bright White, Tungsten Metallic, and Billet Silver Metallic exterior finishes. Eighteen-inch aluminum wheels and the grille get treated to a coat of gloss black, which is accented by dark-tinted headlight bezels and a body-colored rear spoiler. When it's all said and done, the Blacktop Avenger's exterior modifications add $595 to the bill.

Using the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8?powered R/T as a starting point, Challenger Blacktop editions come swathed in Pitch Black, Granite Crystal, or Billet Silver Metallic exterior finishes highlighted by a matte graphite body stripe with red accents running from front to back. The 20-inch aluminum wheels, the grille surround, and the fuel door all get the gloss-black treatment. Unlike the Avenger, Blacktop Challengers come equipped with the Super Track Pak, which includes high-performance-steering gear, brake linings, and monotube-shock absorbers. The performance mods and eye candy of the Challenger's Blacktop package will set you back $1995.
Previously available only on V-6 Chargers, the Blacktop package has been extended to the V-8?powered Charger R/T and the R/T Plus for 2013. Exterior color options include Pitch Black, Billet Metallic, Granite Crystal, Bright White, Redline Red, and Phantom Black. Gloss black covers the 20-inch aluminum wheels and the front grille, and a body-colored rear spoiler sits out back. Perhaps most exciting in this package, however, are the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. A 10-speaker, 552-watt Beats Audio system with subwoofer is, if nothing else, loud. The Blacktop treatment will add $1795 to the bottom line of the Charger, regardless of which trim level you start with.

The All-new 2013 Dodge Dart Aero.

Just when you thought the Dodge Dart couldn't get any better, we're proud to introduce the 2013 Dodge Dart Aero Model.  With 41 mpg (highway) and the award winning 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo Engine, Aero is the most fuel efficient Dart to date.

Aero uses the sporty, fun-to-drive, and advanced 1.4L MultiAir Intercooled Turbo combined with aerodynamic enhancements, light-weight aluminum chassis components, and low rolling resistance tires, to obtain an impressive 41 mpg highway, with the 6-speed manual, and 40 mpg highway with the 6-speed DDCT ?  that's 1 mile per gallon better than Chevy Cruze Eco with an automatic.

"The all-new Dodge Dart is a groundbreaking vehicle, offering features and benefits never before offered in a compact car," said Reid Bigland, President CEO ? Dodge Brand. "The new Dart Aero builds on these attributes by combining a remarkable 41mpg with interior room of a mid-size car and class-leading technology, style and safety, for a MSRP of $19,295 (excluding $795 destination)."

After winning a spot on the IIHS "Top Safety Pick" list, the Dodge Dart continues to break ground in the compact car segment. We look forward to continuing setting the standards for our competitors within the years to come.

"The all-new Dodge Dart is the showpiece for Dodge's next generation philosophy of interior design," says Klaus Busse, Chrysler Group's Head of Interior Design. "The Dart interior takes the beautiful, precision-crafted interiors we rolled out last year and adds a little bit of fun with surprises of color, eye-catching ambient lighting and some really cool technology."

According to Busse, the Dart's award-winning interior design focused on four primary objectives:

1.  Fit and finish and craftsmanship. High-quality, soft-touch materials; low tolerance for gaps in seams and where interior components fit together.

2. In a departure from previous designs, no boxy elements or straight lines. All the elements invite the passengers to touch them, says Busse.

3. No more monochromatic interiors?the design team was more adventuresome in selecting and combining colors. For example, the Dodge Dart Limited employs two-color instrument panel stitching in Gray and Citrus Peel.

4. Leading in technology?user features more commonly found on luxury models, including the available 8.4-inch Uconnect screen for navigation and communication, and the available 7-inch TFT instrument cluster with user customization.

And one more thing: "I don't design cars I don't fit into," says Busse.  At 6'7" tall, it was important that the key dimensions of the Dart be roomier than others in its category, including Chevy Cruze, Ford Focus, and Hyundai Elantra.

The 2012 Dodge Dart is "a C-Segment car designed with some very smart interior solutions that you'd be hard-pressed to find in larger cars," Busse says.

The Dodge Durango is not just beautiful and luxurious. It's a workhorsebest-in-class towing. That's in both the V-6 and V-8 models:  up to 6,200 lbs. with the 3.6-liter, 290 hp Pentastar V-6 and up to a whopping 7,400 lbs. with the 5.7-liter, 390 hp HEMI V-8.

What is towing capacity, anyway? In basic terms, it's a manufacturer-determined rating that indicates how heavy a trailer you can safely and reliably pull with a given vehicle. This value takes into account everything from engine output to braking reserve, so it can get complicated. However, the part you need to know is simple.

Just remember that the pulling vehicle's towing capacity must be greater than the trailer's weight when it is fully loaded?the value known as gross trailer weight or GTW. And that's all there is to it. But be sure to include all the weight you place in the trailer, such as camping supplies or boat fuel, for example.

There's a separate but associated value you'll often see that's known as tongue weight or tongue rating. In general, tongue weight is the portion of the trailer's weight that bears directly on the hitch ball. It will usually be around 7 to 8 percent of the trailer's GTW but not more than 10 percent when the trailer is properly loaded.

Along with its class-leading towing capacity, the Durango offers plenty of other features to make long-distance pulling secure and comfortable, including four-wheel independent suspension, 85 cubic feet of interior cargo volume, and standard trailer sway control on all models

Ram and Jeep® brands brought home eight honors this weekend in the 20th annual Texas Auto Writers Association Texas Truck Rodeo. No other auto OEM captured as many combined.
For the second out of the past three years, Ram brought home the coveted Truck of Texas Award with the 2013 Ram 1500 earning it this time around.
While individual glory is good, full-line glory is better ? and shows the quality and strength of the entire Ram brand as the TAWA writers also named the Ram Truck Brand the Truck Line of Texas.

Not to be one-upped, the Jeep Grand Cherokee captured the SUV of Texas for the third consecutive year.

The full listing of awards for Ram and Jeep from 2012 TAWA Texas Truck Rodeo are:
"Our members overwhelmingly chose the 2013 Ram 1500 as the Truck of Texas and the truck for Texans. The new Ram 1500 is amazing," said TAWA President Michael Herzing. "The new technologies in this truck are true game changers and raise the bar for the competition. You've got to love how tough, capable, comfortable, and fuel efficient this new truck is, especially for Texans who frequently drive long distances.

"Until we drove it, we couldn't believe a truck this nice and capable could achieve 25 miles to a gallon like the Ram does. It blew our members away."

In talking about the Grand Cherokee, Herzing add, ""Grand Cherokee's awards at the Rodeo speak volumes about its design, capability, and performance. Texas is Jeep country."

Judging by the 50 TAWA members occurred over two full days of uncompromising on- and off-road vehicle evaluation. Consideration is given to everything from interior and exterior styling and off-road capability to the entrant's overall utility, value and fuel efficiency.

More than 60 pickups, SUVs and crossover vehicles were entered in this year's event. The Texas Auto Writers Association competition names three overall winners, including Truck of Texas, SUV of Texas and Crossover of Texas, along with 19 additional categories.

The Jeep® brand's storied history with the U.S. military is well known, and that support and strong relationship with our brave servicemen and servicewomen continues today. The new 2012 Jeep Wrangler  Freedom Edition has hit showrooms, a vehicle harkening back to the brand's military roots. Available in red, white, and blue, the Wrangler has a military-inspired star decal on the hood and an "Oscar Mike" fender badge. The best part of all is that Jeep will donate $250 from each Wrangler Freedom Edition it sells to charities that benefit U.S. military members: the Fisher House Foundation and the I Support Foundation.

The idea of navigation is a core component of American history. The compass rose displaying the orientation of the four cardinal directions was the original GPS, before our modern-day navigation systems, leading to discovery and expansion of our country from sea to shining sea. But our means of navigating and exploring have changed. The Jeep® brand and its line of capable vehicles have evolved, too.  Consider the 2012 Jeep Compass a perfect example of that evolution.

Stylish value and courageous capability aren't often mentioned in the same sentence, and yet the Jeep Compass encompasses both of those traits. Taking design cues from its sibling, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Compass has the iconic seven-slot grille with chrome surround. Elsewhere, a diverse array of standard and available wheels adds to the look while its steering and suspension system offers exceptional ride ? even in less-than-ideal weather conditions.

Looks and performance don't matter much if you can't keep driving, which is why the 2012 Jeep Compass 4×2 offers an EPA estimated 29 MPG HWY, and the 4×4 version comes in just behind at an EPA estimated 28 MPG HWY.

Standard interior refinements like air conditioning, remote keyless and illuminated entry, and power windows, mirrors, and locks ensure that driving in the most challenging conditions can feel comfortable. And how, exactly, does the Jeep Compass take on those rough surfaces and that tough weather? With the available Freedom Drive I™ full-time, active 4WD system with lock mode. And for advanced Go Anywhere, Do Anything® capability, you can equip your 2012 Jeep Compass with the Trail Rated® Freedom Drive II® Off-Road Group.

When drivers slip behind the wheel of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart, among the first features they'll see is the available 7-inch TFT reconfigurable instrument panel display. TFT stands for thin film transistor, a technology that opens up a new world of possibilities in driver information.

With the push of a button on the steering wheel, the driver can select from two analog or two digital speedometer displays for the virtual instrument dials. From there, the look and feel of the display can be further customized by choosing from several available main screens.

These intuitive, easy-to-follow display pages can be configured to offer as much or as little information as the user desires?from engine performance to audio. Once a screen is configured it is automatically saved as the default setting for the next start-up, while separate configurations can be saved and assigned to each of the Dart's two key fobs.

With its full-color graphics, large characters, and LED (light-emitting diode) backlighting, the TFT display is bright, crisp, and easy to read at any angle. Clear and concise warning messages displayed with both animation and text.

The instrument display is accented with a floating island bezel (FIB). The FIB is a LED light pipe that surrounds the dash cluster, audio, and cabin controls creating a truly driver centric experience. The dramatic Ruby Red lighting (see above) mirrors the racetrack-styled taillamp theme at the rear of the car.

"The all-new Dodge Dart is the showpiece for Dodge's next generation philosophy of interior design," says Chrysler Group's Head of Interior Design, Klaus Busse. "The Dart interior takes the beautiful, precision-crafted interiors we rolled out last year and adds a little bit of fun with surprises of color, eye-catching ambient lighting and some really cool technology."

Not many people gave Chrysler a chance a few years ago. Now? The sales are adding up. Leading the charge is the newest vehicle to the Chrysler lineup. The Chrysler 200 is the fastest growing sedan in its class*.

How did the Chrysler 200 rise from the ashes to become a segment leader, growing faster than competitors like the Hyundai Sonata, Ford Fusion, and Toyota Camry? It has a refined suspension and an elegant design that looks as smooth as it drives. Add an available 3.6L V6 engine that turns out a best-in-class 283 HP and an EPA estimated 29 HWY MPG and it starts making a lot of sense.

Our rebirth wasn't destined to happen, so we did it the only way we knew how ? with hard work and an unwavering dedication to making the best vehicles in the world.

Chrysler  brand is only one of two U.S. automaker brands to appear in Total Car Score's Top 10 Best Car Brands for 2012.

Chrysler is #8 on the list with a score of 79.78 on a 100-point scale. There's only a 2.78-point difference between the #1 brand Infiniti and #10 Kia. The other U.S. car brand, Buick, came in #3 at 81.30.

Like other Chrysler Group brands, Chrysler's quality has noticeably improved in the past couple years, and that improvement was again evident in Total Car Score's 2012 rating. Chrysler had the second highest improvement in score from 2011 with a +3.71-point change.

Total Car Score determines its rating by calculating the high-level ratings from the most authoritative automotive sources and converts them into a single scale. Each vehicle's Total Car Score incorporates up to nine equally weighted industry sources. That score is then increased or decreased depending on how the car's EPA fuel economy compares to others in its segment.

The 2012 Chrysler 300 was the top rated Chrysler brand car with a Total Car Score of 83.29.

KOKOMO, IN ? Chrysler is taking a holistic approach to ensure the quality of its 8- and 9-speed automatic transmissions from production to delivery as it ramps up to the release of the latter next year.

The all-new front-wheel-drive 9-speed transmission is expected to be available in most new Chrysler models, although the auto maker has not disclosed which vehicles.

The only guarantee is the new Dodge Dart sedan, which is due for the 9-speed in 2013, Brian Harlow, Chrysler vice president-NAFTA Powertrain Operations, tells reporters during a plant tour.

The FWD 9-speed, predicted to be a fuel-saver, is a first for Chrysler and the industry.

With guidance from CEO Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler struck an agreement with Germany-based supplier ZF Friedrichshafen to build the transmissions here. ZF will hold intellectual property rights as part of the deal.

In order to do this, Chrysler executives have overseen a near-complete overhaul of the 3.1 million-sq.-ft. (287,990-sq.-m) Kokomo Transmission Plant (one of four Chrysler transmission facilities located here), taking input from team leaders and workers about efficiency concerns.

When you're in charge of a growing family, it's important to have a dependable mode of transportation that offers safety and convenience to parents as they deliver the kids to school, to ballet class and to soccer practice.

And, according to two major media outlets, one of those vehicles is the 2012 Dodge Durango.

Experts from Edmunds.com and Parents magazine have selected the Durango among the "Best Family Cars of 2012." This marks the 10th industry award for the vehicle, including "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and "Full-Size SUV of Texas" by the Texas Auto Writers Association.

"We are honored that Edmunds.com and Parents have featured the Dodge Durango on this exclusive list," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO ? Dodge Brand. "Dodge is committed to providing quality products to our customers that are safe, innovative and family-friendly, while doing so with passionate styling that sets us apart."

The Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) gathers every spring to test drive cars from various manufactures in order to dole out their prestigious annual awards. This year, the number of awards blossomed to cover 18 categories (everything is bigger in Texas, after all). Chrysler Group was the big winner, nabbing eight awards, including three for Chrysler brand vehicles.

Town & Country is the winner of more major awards than anyone in its class ever, so it should come as no surprise that the 2012 Town & Country took home two awards from TAWA ? the "Family Car of Texas" and the "Minivan of Texas." The 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series, recently recognized for having one of the "10 Best Interiors" for 2012, was named "Full-Size Luxury Car of Texas."

"With 58 vehicle entries competing in 18 different categories, our members were clearly impressed with the Chrysler Group vehicle line-up," said Michael Herzing, President ? TAWA. The Chrysler brand line-up continues to excite consumers and journalists alike. We're honored to win these Texas-sized awards from one of the most respected auto writers associations in the country.

AutoPacific, the respected automotive research group, announced the 16th annual Vehicle Satisfaction Awards based on "the largest single-model-year survey of automotive owners." We like to think of it as an award from you, Jeep brand vehicle owners.

Many automotive awards have to do with initial impressions and short test drives ? important, but they don't tell the whole story. We've received a lot of love this year, but there's something special about winning an award that represents the owners. You know best how a vehicle stands up to the rigors of every day on and off road stress.

From Cars.com blog, Kicking Tires:
Ralph Gilles tapped the drivetrain's Sport button and held down an adjacent key to deactivate the electronic stability system. We were in a 470-horsepower Dodge Challenger  SRT8 ? Gilles at the wheel, me riding shotgun ? about to hug the best four miles of asphalt anywhere in the Midwest: Wisconsin's Road America racetrack.

"Now we're in full 'oh s?t' mode," Gilles smiled.

I figured Chrysler's chief designer could careen around a racetrack in his own cars any way he liked, and it seemed like a good way to pass time after the 20-year company veteran spoke to journalists at the Midwest Automotive Media Association's Spring Rally last week. Careen we did, nearing 140 mph down the half-mile Kettle Bottoms, between the 11th and 12th of Road America's 14 turns. Gilles is a better track driver than me, but that's not saying much: My apexes are messy, my drifts fleeting. Any weekend enthusiast would show me taillights.

Gilles has also navigated Chrysler's own twists and turns. The 42-year-old designer jokes of still having nightmares of former CEO Bob Nardelli, whose tenure lasted 21 months, and he calls his current boss, Sergio Marchionne, a "globally minded" car guy. Gilles has led the automaker's design for three years, overseeing cars from the Dodge Dart to the SRT Viper. A year ago, Marchionne appointed Giles the CEO of Chrysler's SRT performance brand.

SRT's zenith was in 2006, when sales peaked on a slew of SRT variants, from the Ram pickup to the Neon compact. Today the automaker offers SRT versions of just four nameplates ? the Chrysler 300 , Dodge Challenger , Dodge Charger  and Jeep Grand Cherokee  ? plus the standalone SRT Viper.

SRT is more targeted now, Gilles said. Back then, the division was "driven by a little bit of [sales] volume chasing," so much that it was losing money on a few models. "Now [the SRT cars] have to make a business case," he said, and that will include smaller engines than the brand's current V-8 and V-10 lineup.

SRT will "absolutely" return to V-6 or four-cylinder engines, Giles said. "We're looking at all the new corporate-wide platforms right now."

That could include the Dart , which would all but assuredly improve on the ill-executed Caliber SRT4. "It's all I dream about," Gilles told journalists over lunch. "We're definitely interested in seeing that business case."

From Cars.com blog Kicking Tires:
On my last trip to the grocery store, I squeezed the large Chrysler 300  sedan into a less-than-large parking spot and ran in for some supplies, not giving the car or the spot a second thought. When I returned, it was flanked by an SUV and a pickup truck, blocking my view to the sides as I tried to back out.

I had two choices: Hold my breath and hope no one was charging down the aisle while I did the blind backup, or rely on the 300's Rear Cross Path detection system, which I was betting would be more effective at preventing accidents while in Reverse than simply crossing my fingers.

Rear Cross Path uses two bumper-mounted radar sensors to detect oncoming traffic and prevent a potential collision. If a car approaches from the either side, the driver hears a chime and sees an illuminated icon in the side mirror. Accident avoided.

The system was introduced in Chrysler's minivans  in 2009, and then it trickled down to the rest of the lineup. It's even available in the new-for-2013 compact Dodge Dart  sedan. Unfortunately, through, Rear Cross Path isn't a stand-alone option on the 300; it's available only in the Safetytec Package and not on base model 300s. The package costs $2,420 and includes other goodies like blind spot alert, a front- and rear-obstacle detection system, adaptive cruise control, adaptive and self-dimming bi-xenon headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.

Rear Cross Path automatically engages as soon as the car is in Reverse. It's unnerving to rely solely on technology to be your eyes while backing up, but the rearview camera also helps, providing a view straight back. Luckily, this time no one was coming while I inched out. But if someone had been, I was prepared.

When the 2013 Dodge Dart  arrives in the showrooms this summer, two of its three available engines will feature an important new technology never before offered in an American production car. It's called MultiAir®.

While the science behind MultiAir® is highly sophisticated, the underlying principle is simple:  Optimize air flow at all times for maximum efficiency. The MultiAir® system controls engine airflow directly at the intake valve.  This allows airflow into the cylinder to be optimized and tailored for each individual combustion.

MultiAir® technology also reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 10 percent with a matching increase in fuel economy.  Power is increased 10 percent throughout the engine's operating range, while low-speed torque ? the punch the driver feels with the accelerator pedal ? is increased 15 percent.

Both powerplants, the 1.4-liter MultiAir® Intercooled Turbo and the naturally aspirated Tigershark™ 2.4-liter MultiAir®, will be manufactured in a state-of-the-art Chrysler plant in Dundee, Michigan.

The preliminary ratings for the Dart 1.4 MultiAir® Turbo engine are 160 hp (118 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 184 lb-ft of torque (249 Nm) at 2,500 rpm. The 2.4-liter Tigershark™ MultiAir®  is tentatively rated at 184 hp (137 kW) at 6,250 rpm with 171 lb.-ft. (232 Nm) of torque, and is scheduled for availability in the third quarter of 2012.

The Willys-Overland MB came to fruition in 1941 and it was quickly given the "Jeep " nickname (there are a couple theories as to how the term originated, which we won't get into here). The all-terrain utility vehicle made for American troops in WWII was a major asset to the success of American and Allied troops. The vehicle was versatile and supremely capable in a variety of conditions and terrain ? characteristics that are still at the heart of the Jeep® brand to this day.

As Jeep® brand vehicles continue the legacy that started in the 1940s, so too does the Jeep  brand's steadfast support of the brave men and women of the U.S. Military. In addition to the regular bonus cash allowance honoring those who serve, Jeep brand is running a special Military Event for a limited time. Now get $1000. total Military bonus cash on any new 2012 Dodge  Chrysler  Jeep  or Ram ! See our dealership for details, Exclusions apply.

The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart  continues to hit the mark, garnering accolades from journalists across North America. Automotive writers were recently invited to Austin, Texas to experience and drive the 2013 Dodge Dart , which is scheduled to hit the showrooms soon. Not too many cars on the road turn heads like a Dozer Clear Coat Jeep® Wrangler  Rubicon (above).
Or a Redline Pearl Dodge Charger .
Or even a Blackberry Pearl Chrysler 200 .
Very distinctive vehicles with very distinctive exterior paint options.

But those and the other distinctive paint options across our brands are not for everyone. In looking at the most popular car colors through May 10 for our 2012 model year sales, they're not among the top five.

"Our color strategy goes way beyond what will be 'popular' (i.e. sales)," said Head of Exterior Color & Trim Studio Jim Parker. "It's about what colors best express the brand and product, while still being able to touch the broad taste spectrum of our consumer base.

"We recognize that, for customers, having that spectrum of paint options is a way to personalize their vehicle and express their personality. A car is a big investment and statement for customers, so it's important to have exactly what they want and can be happy with for a long time."

Below are the top five most popular exterior paint choice for each brand.

Chrysler :
  1. Gloss Black
  2. Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat
  3. Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat
  4. Tungsten Metallic Clear Coat
  5. Bright White Clear Coat
Jeep :
  1. Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat
  2. Gloss Black
  3. Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat

Dodge :

2012 Chrysler 300S
  highlights!

The blackout grille highlights an exterior largely devoid of shiny chrome pieces. Flanking the understated body panels are polished alloy wheels with black accents. The wheels are 20 inches in diameter on rear-drive models, 19 with all-wheel drive.

The same subdued style continues inside. "Matte-carbon hydrographic" trim lends visual interest to the dashboard. Buyers wanting more than just straight black leather can opt for red upholstery and door panels.

Chrysler offers the 300 S with either its 3.6-liter "Pentastar" V6 engine or 5.7-liter "Hemi" V8. For the 2012 model year, V6 300s are available with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. This is standard fare on the S. The three extra gears make the car feel more responsive at all speeds. It doesn't have the off-the-line jump of the Hemi, but the V6 is more than adequate while promising significantly better fuel economy. With rear-wheel drive and the 8-speed automatic, the 300 S is EPA rated at 19 mpg city/31 mpg highway. Not too shabby for a car weighing two tons.

Chrysler partnered with hip-hop legend Dr. Dre, bringing his Beats audio brand  to the 300 S.

It might be small in the grand scheme, but I like and appreciate the 300's heated and cooled cupholders.

The first numbers are out, and the 2013 Dodge Dart is already shaping up as world-class contender in fuel economy.  Here are the recently announced EPA fuel economy ratings for several of Dart's state-of-the-art powertrain combinations:

The all-new 2.0L Tigershark engine combined with the all-new six-speed manual transmission brings new levels of fuel efficiency and performance to Dart.  Recently receiving an EPA fuel economy rating of 25 mpg (miles per gallon) in city driving, 36 mpg on the highway and a combined rating of 29 mpg, the all-new Dodge Dart  is capable of offering impressive savings at the pump.  And with 160 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque, unlike much of its competition, the all-new Dart delivers fuel efficiency without compromising performance.

For added performance and dramatic increase in torque, Dodge has taken fuel efficiency to a whole new level with Fiat's award-winning 1.4-liter MulitAir Turbo Intercooled engine.  With an EPA rating at 27 mpg City, 39 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined when equipped with the six-speed manual transmission the all-new Dart provides the ultimate combination of power and fuel efficiency.

Dodge will also introduce a Dodge Dart Aero model (available in the third quarter of 2012) that will achieve at least 41 mpg on the highway.

From a field of 40 vehicles with no maximum price cap, the editors of WardsAuto have selected the cabin of the 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series  as one of "Ward's 10 Best Interiors" for 2012.

Only vehicles with new or substantially redesigned interiors are eligible for the prize, now in its second year and designed to parallel the prestigious Ward's 10 Best Engines award. Other winners of the Ward's interior honor this year include 2013 Dodge Dart , the Audi A7, and the Infiniti JX35.

"The tan-and-brown color scheme is punctuated by Poltrona Frau leather and deep-grained satin-finish wood on the doors, dash and center console," the WardsAuto editors wrote. "If Bentley sold an affordable family sedan, it would look like the 300 Luxury. It's smart and modern with a generous helping of over-the-top lavishness."

The WardsAuto editors loved the leather and real hand-sanded wood trim, but there's more to the Chrysler 300 Luxury Series' unique interior.  With plush heated and ventilated Napa leather seats, the vehicle is the complete comfort package. The driver gets the added bonus of a two-tone leather wrapped heated steering wheel with paddle shifters.  Finally, an 8.4" Uconnect® Touch screen entertainment center stores music so that great tunes are just a few touches away.

Need a van for your business, but don't want a full size rig that drives and gulps fuel like a semi-tractor? The 2012 Ram C/V  might be for you.

Based on the  Dodge Grand Caravan, the Ram C/V handles like a  minivan (which it is) and gets reasonable gas mileage. It's far more powerful than the similar purpose Ford Transit Connect. Yet it has enough cargo room and payload for many business firms' needs. C/V is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Only one trim level is offered, but multiple factory options and even more aftermarket accessories will allow a business to tailor a C/V to its needs.

The 2013 Dodge Dart  is proudly built in America at a state-of-the-art Chrysler facility in Belvedere, Illinois. Leveraging advanced tools and technology, the Belvedere facility is able to assemble the all-new Dodge Dart to world-class quality standards.

"This is a crucial vehicle launch for the company as we re-enter the compact sedan market, and everyone is committed to launching a high-quality product," says Doug Betts, Senior Vice President, Quality, Chrysler Group LLC. "We've invested $20 million in new quality tools and processes at the Belvidere Assembly Plant to achieve the strict quality targets we set for Dodge Dart."

These innovative techniques include the plant's new Center for Technical Vehicle Validation (CTVV) and Materials Laboratory. The intense CTVV process tests vehicles for 437 separate functional characteristics, from emissions to fit-and-finish to air-conditioning output.  The CTVV at Belvidere is the first such program at an American Chrysler plant.

The Belvidere facility also gained a dedicated, technologically advanced metrology center, a resource first employed at Chrysler's North Jefferson plant in Detroit. Advanced metrology allows production engineers to detect build variations far smaller than can be detected by the human eye or even by traditional measurement techniques. The objective is an improvement in overall quality and refinement that you can see, touch, and hear.

"We obsessed over the quality and refinement of the Dodge Dart  as it was developed, tested and built," Betts says. "As a company, we've really overhauled our processes and expectations for building quality vehicles and doing whatever it takes to satisfy customers."

The wait is finally over. SRT has officially pulled the wraps off the 2013 Viper, and it's everything we were hoping it would be. Let's discuss numbers: 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque from a front/mid-mounted 8.4-liter V10 and the best power-to-weight ratio of any Viper ever built.
In fact, the 2013 SRT Viper's 4.9 pounds per horsepower. What's more, this engine has no turbocharger or supercharger, and those 600 lb-ft make this V10 the most torque-rich naturally aspirated production engine in the world.
Two models will be available, the standard high-performance SRT and GTS. The SRT is meant to "offer a perfect blend of extreme performance and a deliberate preservation of what has become the iconic DNA of the Viper," says Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of the Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports. Buyers looking for a little more technology can opt for the GTS, which adds such niceties as a two-mode active suspension and interior creature comforts not normally associated with the Viper.
The 2013 Viper isn't just about power, either. Chassis updates are plentiful and include a beautiful X-brace up front that helps the new platform boast a 50-percent increase in rigidity over the last Viper. To help the driver maintain control, the 2013 Viper is fitted with stability and traction control (both fully defeatable, says Gilles) along with Pirelli P Zero Z-rated tires that were designed specifically for the Viper in massive 355 sizes in back and 295 up front. Three different wheels will be available, with five or six spokes in polished, matte black or gloss black finishes, along with a special lightweight set as part of the SRT Track Package.
Inside, the Viper is more luxurious than ever before, with seats from Sabelt and a seven-inch LCD screen directly in front of the driver that's configurable with a whole slew of custom operations. Chrysler's stellar 8.4-inch Uconnect Media Center  is also included, as is a Harmon Kardon sound system. Oh, and for the first time ever, cruise control is standard.
Though first and foremost a street car, SRT fully intends to establish the 2013 Viper's racing credentials early and often. Viper will return to the American Le Mans Series in 2012, fielding a two-car team driven by Dominik Farnbacher, Marc Goossens, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Kuno Wittmer.

Ram has released another preview image ahead of the truck's debut at the New York auto show this week. The new photo, which shows a knurled knob, can be seen below.

The official debut of a new Ram truck probably an updated 2013 Ram 1500, which should adopt the Pentastar V-6 and an eight-speed automatic has been announced for next week's New York Auto Show. To wet appetites, Ram released this image of an extreme close-up of the new truck's chrome-y countenance.

From this photo, it appears that the Ram logo has been slightly redesigned. Also, if this is a new 1500, it looks like a new grille will replace the one which dates back to the 2009 model year.

During Super Bowl XLVI, Chrysler Group LLC debuted "It's Halftime in America," an ad that was created to capture the fighting spirit this country is known for and to serve as a reminder that we all have the ability to come together to make a difference.
This weekend, the company will unveil four new television spots as part of the continuation of "It's Halftime in America." As you watch, you will see familiar scenes from the Super Bowl spot that weave their way in each of these commercials; all of which were scripted and filmed at the same time.

Each spot was inspired by stories we've heard from people across the country, showing the things they are doing every day to move forward and win their own second half. They are each intended to be stories of hope and encouragement.

Each of these ads has its own theme and dives deeper into the essence of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep® and Ram Truck brands:

Chrysler "300  My Son Steven"  A father's pride in his adult son making his own way in life. This commercial encourages one to dream big, set your own course and shoot for the stars.
Dodge "Shaun in the Challenger" A father speaks to the importance of honor and family.  In this spot, the focus is on the importance of family and this great country.

Jeep "Jenny in the Jeep Wrangler "  The story of a young daughter who is adapting to a new life and a new city with her family.  We see our characters reinvent, persevere and embrace the spirit of American resilience.

Ram "Tommy and the Ram "  A wife's admiration for her husband's selfless and unwavering determination to provide for his family. This piece highlights the meaning of persistence, determination, dedication and taking on the path of responsibility.

I'd like to remind everyone as they watch to remember the spirit of "It's Halftime in America" and its simple message that in the land of opportunity, everyone has the right to dream and the power to turn that dream into reality.

Based on the 2012 Dodge Challenger  SXT Plus, the new Challenger Rallye Redline model adds even more 'bad boy' attitude and head-turning style to the brand's iconic coupe.

Flanking the center of the Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline's performance hood scoops, roof and deck lid is its signature Redline Red stripe with two thin side stripes for added detail. A body-color painted deck-lid spoiler adds to the performance look, while continuing the Redline Red triple stripe pattern at the center.

Filling the wheel wells, the Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline features new 20-inch Pitch Black wheels with a Redline Red lip and inner drum for a one-of-a-kind look. In addition, wider P245/45R20 Firestone Firehawk all-season performance tires provide greater contact with the road and a lower sidewall profile for improved steering precision and at-the-limit handling.

All-new to the Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline model is the availability of heated front performance seats in Radar Red leather. In addition, Dodge Challenger's class-exclusive seating for five may be wrapped in Dark Slate Gray leather.

The Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline is available in four colors, including Bright Silver Metallic, Tungsten Metallic, Bright White and Pitch Black.

The new 2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline combines world-class ride and refinement with its 305 horsepower aluminum Pentastar V-6 engine and track-tuned performance suspension to deliver a thrilling driving experience.

The Dodge Challenger's 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine features a cold-air induction system and dual exhausts from the headers back to the exhaust tips for maximum output. The result is 305 track-ready horsepower (227 kW) at 6,350 rpm and a responsive 268 lb.-ft. (363 N?m) of torque at 4,800 rpm. The engine's torque exceeds 90 percent of its peak value from 1,800 to 6,400 rpm, which provides outstanding drivability and responsiveness. Thanks to its all-aluminum design, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine provides the new Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline with a 52.4 / 47.6 front-to-rear weight distribution for improved balance and handling.

Enabling even more spirited driving with its five-speed Auto Stick transmission are die-cast zinc steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters. Race-inspired with precision feel, Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline's paddle shifters are ergonomically located behind the sporty thick-rimmed three-spoke Dodge steering wheel for maximum control.

And to deliver improved all around acceleration, the Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline replaces its 2.65:1 rear-axle ratio for a more responsive 3.06:1 unit.

Upping the ante, the Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline features the Super Sport Group as standard equipment and includes: performance-tuned suspension with 42 percent firmer front and 22 percent firmer rear monotube shocks. A larger 1.18-inch (30 mm) front and a 0.78-inch (20 mm) rear-sway bar replace 1.06-inch (27 mm) and 0.62-inch (16 mm) bars, respectively and add to the Dodge Challenger's cornering capabilities. A performance-tuned steering calibration delivers 25 percent quicker steering and 20 percent heavier on-center feel. Topping off the handling upgrade are larger and wider 20 x 8.0-inch (replacing 18 x 7.5-inch) wheels with wider P245/45R20 all-season performance tires (replacing P235/55R18 tires).

Making sure the Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline delivers world-class levels of stopping power, larger performance disc brakes replace the standard set. At the front, dual-piston front calipers replace single-piston units and larger 13.6 x 1.26-inch (345 x 28 mm) vented rotors replace 12.6 x 1.1-inch (320 x 28 mm) vented rotors. At the rear, 12.6 x 0.87-inch (320 x 22 mm) vented rotors replace 12.6 x 0.4-inch (320 x 10 mm) solid rotors.

Fuel efficiency at a reasonable price is on practically everybody's mind these days, and Dodge is hoping the newest addition to its fleet of mid-size sedans will out-perform the competition while saving its owners money on the lot and at the pumps a lot of money, especially compared to competitive vehicles.

The 2012 Dodge Avenger  SE V6 package is designed to deliver high performance and value for driving enthusiasts V-6 power and unmatched style for thousands of dollars less than the competition. Powered by a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, it produces a best-in-class 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque while achieving an EPA estimated 29 miles-per-gallon on the highway. That's best-in-class for a V-6-powered mid-size car.

"You get the power, the efficiency, the look and tremendous value that is unmatched in the segment," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO Dodge Brand. "The Dodge Avenger is one of the fastest growing mid-size cars in America, with sales up 112% this year."

The new Avenger SE V6 model has a starting U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of just $21,495 (excluding destination). It is uniquely positioned as an alternative for consumers looking for a sedan with more style, personality and performance, as well as value for their dollar.

And if that isn't enough, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine has been named one of Ward's "10 Best Engines," and the Dodge Avenger is also an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick.

It's that time of year again- Spring Cleaning! This also applies to your vehicle. Here are 5 tips and tricks to help you get started:
  • Clean the interior  Vacuum, dust, and get rid of any junk inside. It's the same principle as doing a big "spring clean" in your house throw away the junk and store what you don't need until next winter.
  • Shampoo the floor mats and carpet  Remove your floor mats and shampoo both the carpet and the mats. Test a small spot to ensure that your cleaning product and carpet are compatible.
  • Wash the underbody  This is one of the most crucial steps for keeping your vehicle free of rust and corrosion. A trip to the car wash should do the trick, but make sure it's one that blasts water underneath the car.
  • Check or replace the windshield wipers  Winter weather can shorten the lifespan of your wipers. Wipe the blades completely clean and test them out. Driving without proper functioning wipers is not only annoying as a driver, it's unsafe.
  • Get a regular tune-up Ensure that your air filter is clean, spark plugs are all good, and check your oil.

Spring is in the air, and you know what that means; summer is just around the corner.

Lakes are quickly thawing, trails will be opening up, and race tracks are eager to reopen their gates.

Whether it's a boat, jet skis, dirt bikes, or your prized race car; you are going to need the right vehicle to tow it confidently on your way to having all that summer fun.  Not to mention, you'll want to have the capability of bringing the family and friends along too.

Unlike some of our competitors whose SUVs have simply become dressed-up sedans, the Dodge Durango  remains a tried and true SUV; combining all the characteristics of both sport and utility.

First of all, with its near 50:50 weight distribution, four-wheel independent suspension, and responsive steering and handling, the Durango possesses driving dynamics that you wouldn't necessarily expect in a vehicle of its size.  Plus, with two potent powertrains and available all-wheel drive, the Durango has the grunt and traction to get you where you're going with peace of mind.

Then there's that whole promise of towing your summer toys.  Well, the Durango has you covered.

If you stick with the 3.6L Pentastar V-6, then your max tow capacity comes in at 6,200 lbs. certainly more than enough for a lot of buyers.  You'll also benefit from an impressively efficient 23 mpg on the highway.

But let's say your toys weigh a bit more and you need some additional power to tug them around.  Then the 5.7L HEMI V-8 will be more your speed.  With its gutsy 360 hp and massive 390 lb.-ft. of torque, tow capacity swells to a very healthy 7,400 lbs (7,200 lbs. when coupled with AWD).
What makes the Durango so special is its ability to perform most, if not all of your towing needs, all while carrying an abundance of people and cargo inside.  With available three-row, seven-passenger seating, you can comfortably accommodate plenty of people on any length trip.  And thanks to 30+ storage areas, 28 seating configurations, and a rear cargo area with nearly 85 cubic feet of capacity, the Durango's interior can be customized just the way you like it.

So, in preparation for your active summer lifestyle, be sure to give the Durango a close look.  It may be the perfect SUV to help you have some great fun in the coming months.

In an effort to curb spending, improve fuel economy and simplify its manufacturing process Chrysler introduced a new 3.6-liter "Pentastar" V6 engine several years ago, with a plan that it would replace up to seven other V6 engines.

With that plan now mostly complete, the next stage in development is to down-size that engine, with a new report that the next generation Jeep Liberty will receive a 3.2-liter version of that powerplant. Also expected as a part of the mix is a new 9-speed automatic transmission, which will help maximize the power available by the smaller displacement engine to help deliver performance that is on par with the larger engine, but with improved fuel economy..

Making anywhere from 283 to 305 hp, depending on the application, look for the 3.2-liter unit to deliver around 250 hp. Previously, Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne had said the company was planning a smaller displacement version of the Pentastar V6 using Fiat's Multi-Air variable valve timing technology, which uses hydraulic pumps rather than a cam on the intake side. While it isn't yet clear if that technology will be used in this current version, if it is, power output could be closer to the 3.6-liter version, with improved fuel economy.

2013 Viper to Headline NY Auto Show!
When it debuts, the Viper will be the flagship model for the new SRT (Street and Racing Technology) brand, which has evolved from being an in-house tuning division to its own entity, headed by Chrysler design boss Ralph Gilles. Other models in the brand include SRT performance versions of the Challenger, Charger, Chrysler 300 and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Demand for the new American sports car will be significant and so as to reward loyalty Chrysler has decided to limit the few thousand first year units to only Viper owners and members of the Viper owner's club.

Chrysler is going to introduce new midsize sedans to replace the Chrysler 200  and Dodge Avenger  and new versions of the Compass  and Liberty  for 2013. They'll be based on the platform that underpins the Dart and built in Toledo.

Modifying the platform to meet Jeep owners' demands will be a crucial test of the Fiat-Chrysler strategy.

"It's gonna be a trail-rated, full-blooded Jeep that has its origins in the architecture of a sports car," Chrysler and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said in an interview.

Chrysler is also considering a compact hatchback -- Marchionne calls it the "Chrysler 100." If that car gets the green light, Chrysler will also export it as a Lancia, Fiat's European luxury brand.

He also plans to export sporty Alfa Romeos, probably a midsize sport sedan and wagon. Alfa's return to the U.S. has been frustratingly delayed until 2013, but Marchionne remains adamant it will happen.

"We had to make sure they were lightweight, fast cars with Alfa powertrains," he said, citing an upcoming 1.8-liter engine that produces a mind-boggling 300 horsepower.

"There will be plants making Alfas in the United States and Europe," he said. "I need to export to Europe from the U.S. The volumes I get here are how I reintroduce Alfa to Europe," where it has become a bit player compared with brands such as Audi and BMW.

Marchionne must also solve the riddle of Chrysler and Dodge's minivans in 2013. He hates building nearly identical vehicles for two different brands, but he can't afford to throw away tens of thousands of sales by rashly killing a model.

"Retention and growth of volume is key," he said.
